Mac OS X – How to clean up Finder “Open With” menu

Sometimes Open With menu in Finder will keep entries for older version of the applications, so you end up with more than one menu entry for a particular app.
To clean up Open With menu, you need to delete preference file.

Open Finder and go to your Home folder.

Open Library folder (if you can’t see the Library folder, read this article.)

Open Preferences folder.

Find com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file and make a backup copy of it. Delete com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file.

Now Open With menu will have only have entries for the latest app versions.
