IIS 6 – eurl.axd file not found error

If you are running IIS 6 and ASP.Net, you may get eurl.axd file not found error when trying to browse websites you have set up in IIS.
Lets say your default document is set to Default.aspx, so if you browse to http://myserver/mywebsite you would expect to be redirected to Defaul.aspx, but instead you get eurl.axd error.
The problem is caused by ASP.Net 4.0 extensionless URL feature. To resolve this issue, you’ll need to disable extensionless URLs. This is done via registry.

1) Back up your registry

2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ASP.NET\4.0.30319.0\

3) You should see EnableExtensionlessUrls setting. Edit and set the value to 0

4) If you don’t see EnableExtensionlessUrls, just create it with a value of 0

5) Restart IIS
